A sellsword of no known birth and no known family, met by Catelyn Stark on the kingsroad in the company of Tyrion Lannister and bought thereafter at the going rate. He stood for Tyrion in the trial-by-combat at the Eyrie and outlasted Ser Vardis Egen by sword and footwork until the old knight's armour bore him down; he stood for Tyrion in the war that followed at King's Landing and rose under his patron's command to a knighthood and a captaincy of the gold cloaks. He took no oath he could not unswear, and at the last refused the next combat his patron asked of him, taking instead Lollys Stokeworth's hand from Queen Cersei and the inheritance of her keep.
