Lord Lyonel Strong of Harrenhal served Viserys I Targaryen first as master of laws from 105 AC and afterward as Hand of the King, replacing Ser Otto Hightower when the Old King set the green and the black to bitter feud. A learned man, called a maester in chains by some for the breadth of his reading, he brought four of his children to court: his elder son Ser Harwin "Breakbones," made captain in the gold cloaks; his younger Larys "Clubfoot," who served the king's confessors; and two daughters set to wait upon Princess Rhaenyra. In 120 AC, a fire broke out in the tower of Harrenhal where Lord Lyonel and Ser Harwin had returned to settle the seat. Both burned with it. Larys, who alone survived, became Lord of Harrenhal in his father's place, and the whispers about the cause of the fire have not stilled since.
