Third son of King Daeron II Targaryen and Queen Myriah of Dorne, born at King's Landing in the middle 170s AC and reckoned mad almost from the cradle: meek of voice, sickly of body, and given in his middle age to dancing naked through the corridors of the Red Keep while his elder brother kept the throne. He was wed in time to Lady Alys of House Arryn, who gave him the twin children Aelor and Aelora and the younger Princess Daenora — the twins both died early to leave only Daenora behind. When his eldest brother Prince Baelor Breakspear died of his head-wound at the tourney at Ashford in 209 AC, and the realm passed his elder brother Aerys onto the throne, the mad prince Rhaegel was named Prince of Dragonstone, for that the new king Aerys had no children of his own — a title he carried six years until in 215 AC he sat to a feast at the Red Keep and choked to death upon a lamprey pie. His son the new Prince Aelor would not long outlive him.
