House Blackwood of Raventree Hall is among the oldest of First Men houses in the Riverlands. They were kings once in the wolfswood, before they were driven south by the Kings of Winter and Andal invaders both. At the heart of their courtyard stands a great weirwood, long since dead and bone-white, in whose branches a thousand ravens are said to roost, never quite cawing and never quite silent for long either.
Alone among the Riverlands houses the Blackwoods still keep the Old Gods. Their long feud with the neighbouring Brackens is older than the kingdom that contains them; no Bracken now living knows what the first quarrel was over, but every Bracken alive is sure the Blackwoods started it. Lord Tytos Blackwood is the head of the house at the time of A Game of Thrones.
