House Crakehall

None so Fierce

House Crakehall of Crakehall is an ancient westerlands house sworn to Casterly Rock, its hall set along the Ocean Road where the southern shore of the Sunset Sea meets a long stretch of forest. The Crakehalls are of First Men descent and trace their line to Crake the Boarkiller, a hero of the Age of Heroes whose deed their brindled boar still proclaims. They have long been counted among the strongest of Lord Lannister's bannermen, men of uncommon size and robustness, and their histories remember them well: Ser Aubrey Crakehall, who, after defeating King Hagon Hoare, ruled briefly as King of the Iron Islands before he was drowned by the Shrike; and Ser Roland Crakehall of the Kingsguard, who stood with his sworn brothers at the Trial of Seven at Ashford and rode against the Second Blackfyre Rebellion in the reigns of Daeron II and Aerys I.

At the time of A Game of Thrones the house is held by Lord Roland Crakehall, whose father Lord Sumner trained both Jaime Lannister and Merrett Frey as squires in the campaign against the Kingswood Brotherhood. His eldest son and heir is Ser Tybolt; his second, Ser Lyle, called the Strongboar, is reckoned by Jaime among the strongest men in the Seven Kingdoms; his third, Ser Merlon, attends the court at King's Landing. The brindled boar rides beneath the lion of Lannister in the war for the Trident, borne in Lord Tywin's host from Harrenhal to the field, half-obscured by the dried blood of the messengers who carry it.
