House Royce of Runestone is among the oldest of First Men houses, claiming a line of bronze kings older than the Andal Invasion that swept them down to the rank of lord. They guard the western shore of the Bite, and they have never let the matter of who came first to the Vale slip from their family memory.
Lord Yohn Royce, Bronze Yohn to friend and stranger alike, wears the runed bronze armour his forefathers bore, marked with characters older than the Common Tongue and said by the smallfolk to ward off harm. He has not yet been proven wrong about it. His sons Andar, Robar, and Waymar ride for the Vale, the realm, and the Wall, in that order.
